Every week the Executive of Loughborough Students Union will be out asking you, the students, what you want from your union! We're committed to providing you with a better student experience and who better to know what makes the student experience than you guys! In response to your comments and suggestions we've created this page so you can see how your voice has made a real difference.

You said: " I am fed up of my student email address looking old fashioned and not letting me accept pictures from my friends"
We did: " Working closley with the University we have pushed for a better more functional email system which has been rolled out over the christmas break in the form of google mail. This new system allows colours and pictures in emails plus many many other options from calenders to personlised google homepages and everything in between. We believe this is a strong step forward for what students want and a fantastic start to 2010.

You said: "I don't understand why the University doesn't accept that students aren't involved in the selction process of a warden? Doesn't this seem vital that the prospective candidate understands the wants and needs of their key stakeholder?"
We did: "This is something that the Union feels very strongly about and has campaigned acitvely for quite some time. It is only recently, through pressure from the Union President, that the University has finally accepted the importance of student representation in the appointment of a warden. The Union Preseident and even the VP: Finance and Commerical Services now have 30 minutes to speak to each candidate regarding issues such as relationships with the hall committees, the Union and even how they deal with the advisory role over the hall finances. The Union will be sent all relevant information prior to the interviews such as application forms and references, and will use these in the interview process. After the interviews the Union will then report their findings to the the University panel and make their own recommendations as to who would benefit the students the most. A huge success and a step in the right direction with relevant student representation."

You said: "I think it would be nice to see the Exec out there a bit more? I have seen them whilst they complete their Exec polls but I think i’d prefer it on a more informal basis."
We did: "This year the Executive have put a lot more effort into ‘raising the exec profile’ through various mediums previously not explored. It is challenging to find the time to accomplish this but we feel is we are not out there meeting our membership then we aren’t doing our jobs properly. The Executive have attended the majority of the halls of residence high table’s – a great medium to sit and chat without the formality of an office or a survey, and even a good opportunity for the Exec to let their hair down! The Exec have even attend hall Xmas Balls and again it is so beneficial to chat to ordinary students in a manner which is not only comfortable but enjoyable by both parties. A huge success and an idea which will be more than encouraged to next year’s Executive."

You said: "The cost of replacing an ID card is getting far too high - £8 is surely not justified and I'm worried that it will increase over the academic year!"
Joe Hare
We did: "The Student’s Union has been in contact with imago regarding the matter of replacement ID cards and the issue surrounding increased costs. We have agreed a deal that the ID cards will be reduced to £6 rather than £8 which we believe is a positive balance between a justified cost and an active deterrent against carelessness."
