WARMUN
Warwick MUN was a unique conference, with a real-time geopolitical crisis consisting of seven crisis rooms running concurrently, linked via live video feed which televised interviews, presidential statements and news reports. The debate was high-powered and passionate, where Loughborough delegate Florian represented the Minister of Commerce in the Venezuelan cabinet.

SINGAPORE
In March 2011 8 students attended Harvard World Model United Nations in Singapore. The Conference involved over 2200 students from 65 nations. The Loughborough delegation were representing the Central African Republic and experienced a range of committees including:
SPECPOL (Special Political and Decolonisation Committee) discussing sovereign wealth funds.
SOCHUM (Social Cultural and Humanitarian Committee): discussing the right to development.
WHO (World Health Organization) discussing therapeutic access for and containment of multi-drug resistant Tuberculosis
WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation) discussing genetic patenting.
Not only did students participate in four days of conferences, but also had the opportunity to explore Singapore and attend numerous socials including the conference closing ceremony on the beach. All those who attended found the Conference incredibly rewarding and made new friends from across the world.
Head delegate Andy Clarke commented: "WorldMUN in Singapore was without a doubt one of the best experiences I've ever had - mixing with people from great universities all over the world to discuss the most important issues by day and then having some great parties by night. It gives you a chance to make friends all over the world, whether it's Malaysia, America or Australia. If you get the chance to go to a conference, I really recommend it!"

MILMUN
Florian Gruenwald: "MILMUN - An international Model UN conference taking place at Bocconi University in Milan, one of the most exciting European cities certainly was a highlight in this year's MUN calendar. I was very glad to have had the chance to represent the Loughborough Model UN society, stepping into the shoes of a Nigerian delegate at the SC and trying to improve the security of Sub-Saharan Africa. The combination of a challenging and inspiring debate with meeting very knowledgeable and interesting people from all over the world really was a great experience. I'm already looking forward to next year's edition and I hope that as many of you as possible will take part as well"!

OXIMUN October 2011
Four delegates from Loughborough attended the Oxford University International Model United Nations Conference, representing the proud nation of Chile. Delegates Florian, Laura, Suhaila and Dominik were in four committees including SPECPOL, discussing economic colonisation, ECOSOC discussing rising food prices with special regard to women, HRC discussing the human right to the freedom of religion and DISEC discussing suppressing the active and passive facilitation of terrorism in the Middle East. All delegates represented Chile well, and also enjoyed many socials, including a committee dinner in Oxford University halls. Delegate Laura Crawford (me), "It was great to be a part of such a prestigious conference, in one of the best Universities in the World. The standard of debate was high but there was still plenty of opportunities to get involved in the proceedings, and the conference as a whole was a great learning experience."

NOTTSMUN 2011
From 11th-13th November 12 delegates from Loughborough attended the Nottingham International Model United Nations Conference. The conference focused heavily on issues in Africa and delegates were discussing everything from Chinese investment in Africa to the empowerment of women through education as well as arms exports to countries with changing regimes. Outside of conferences delegates enjoyed a cocktail party, as well as a conference dinner. Loughborough Delegate Suhaila Aloo also won an award for her contribution to her committee debate. Head Delegate Andy Clarke said: "NottsMun was a good opportunity for the Loughborough delegation due to its proximity and was especially good for our new members to get a feel for MUN, the conference topics were really interesting and the socials were also a lot of fun." Delegate Jess Breadman also thought: "Nottingham was my first conference with Model UN. It was really fun getting into debates with the other candidates during the day then getting to meet them properly at the socials in the evenings...such a worthwhile experience."

SCOTMUN 2012:
Several delegates from Loughborough attended the conference in Edinburgh, representing South Africa. Head delegate Tashie Rizk comments: 'Edinburgh MUN was my first conference and I had a great time. I was the delegate from South Africa on the UN Women Committee discussing sex-selective abortion and female infanticide. This was a touchy topic as there were many different religions and cultures around the table, there were moments where the USA managed to insult Pakistan more than once and the alliance between France and Russia at times, refusing to compromise, resulting in a veritable minefield of opinions and creating a great debate. However, we ended the conference on a high, passing a resolution unanimously. The other aspect of the conference were the socials. The first night we all met up in a creepy but cool bar called Frankensteins. The name says it all really! On the Saturday night we all went to a Ceilidh which I was sceptical about at first, but it was amazing fun.'
