Welcome to the Green Room.
We hope you will enjoy your time with us taking part in lots of interesting and exciting activities with you new friends.
Our room is bright and spacious; 2 rooms linked by a double doorway which has 3 carpeted areas and an outer door leading to an enclosed outdoor play area, in which we have a variety of outdoor toys as well as indoor toys for you to play with. The room is divided into different play areas which cover all of your developmental needs whilst you are playing and having fun. On one of our walls we have an ‘art gallery’ where we like to display your pictures. We also have an area of wall for your mummy or daddy to use. This is where they will find the medication forms if they are needed and a family involvement board. This is for them to let us know what you have been doing at home eg. Visit to the farm, relatives came to visit etc so that we can talk to you about it or include it in our activities and your play. You are very welcome to bring in photos, messages, postcards etc to add to your ’learning journey’.
On the window, at the side of the first green door, we display our toy chart so that your mummy and daddy can see what toys and activities you have had the opportunity to play with. At the end of each day you have a daily chart to take home which tells your mummy and daddy what you have had to eat and drink, how much sleep you may have had and how many nappies you have used.
There are 8 ladies to look after you throughout the week. They are:
Gill - loves to play with messy activities and be creative,
Judy - likes to play and have fun with you,
Linda - enjoys one to one time with you
Chloe- her favourite time of the day is singing action rhymes and dancing
Charmaine - likes lots of physical activities both indoors and out,
Sara - is an outdoor girl and likesusing the slide and the soft play
Jess - is musical and likes to dance
Ruth- likes to put on some music and sing and dance
Katy - she likes to draw pictures and enjoys playing in the home corner.
Two of these ladies will be your key personsand they willespecially watch over you. In the corridor, just above the coat pegs by the bathroom door, you will find a train and your photograph will be on one of the carriages with your key persons’ group. The key persons compile an individual ‘learning journey’book of observations, photos and artwork recording your development and progression.
At 2 years oldyouare becoming more confident and sociable and learning lots of new skills. Each day at nursery you will have the opportunity to take part in lots of fun activities painting, drawing, cutting, gluing, counting, sharing a story, growing seeds or using musical instruments. Some of your work will be displayed around the room and some will be put into your artwork folder for you to take home. We encourage you to play nicely with the other children being kind to each other, sharing and taking turns, whilst teaching you which behavior is unacceptable. We also encourage you to help the ladies when the toys need to be tidied away. When you hear the ‘Superman’ cd you know it is time to tidy away the toys that you have been playing with.
At lunchtime you will sit with a small group of your friends and one of the ladies, who will encourage you to sit nicely at the table, try all the meals offered, feed yourselves using your cutlery correctly, drink from a beaker without a lid and eventually not to use a bib. You can have breakfast cereal at nursery if you arrive by 8.30am unless you have already eaten breakfast at home. We also encourage you to visit the snack bar each morning and afternoon, where we offer you a variety of different fruit and vegetables for you to try, along with a drink of milk or water.
After lunch you may have a short nap or rest to recharge your batteries. You will have a mattress and a labeled sheet and blanket which we provide for you. If after 20 minutes of resting you haven’t had a nap you can get up and play or look at books.
We have our own bathroom where there are 3 small toilets, potties and 2 nappy changing areas. If you wear a nappy it is checked frequently and changed when needed and when you are taken for it to be changed you will be encouraged to sit on a potty. When mummy or daddy think you are ready to be toilet trained we like you to have been wearing pants at home, and having wee’s on the potty or toilet for 2 weeks before you come to nursery in pants. Mummy or daddy should tell the ladies how well you have been doing and they will continue your toilet training at nursery. The ladies will take you to use the potty or the toilet regularly, just ask one of them if you need the toilet.
Parent information
We provide biodegradable nappies, and record each time your child has a nappy change so you only pay for the number of nappies used. When potty training we can provide biodegradable ‘pull ups’ at a slightly increased cost, until they are ready to progress to pants if you wish.
Young children, especially under three year olds, can quickly and for no apparent reason develop a high temperature. Febrile seizures (fits) can occur in children when they have a fever (a temperature of 38°C /101°F or above), usually when the fever is in its early stages. The seizure can often happen before you realise your child is ill and can occur as a result of an infection or inflammation. Although not common they are not particularly rare either. For this reason we ask you to provide two named sachets of Calpol for us to administer should your child have a temperature, however following nursery policy we will only give calpol for up to three consecutive days without consent from the doctor. If you think we may need to administer Calpol on a particular day, you can ask us to do this by signing a permission form. It is important that we can always reach you to obtain permission to administer Calpol or let you know if your child becomes too ill to stay at nursery If you are not on your usual phonenumbers you must leave a number for that day or a contact who will be able to reach you if you are in a meeting.
To help us to ensure your child stays comfortable throughout the day we ask you to put a couple of changes of clothes in your nursery bag along withany comforters they usually use e.g. dummy, soft cloth, special soft toy.
We all have your Child’s best interests at heart so if you have any concerns or queries, please talk to us about them. All green room staff are available to chat to for advice or support. Similarly if there are any instructions you would like to give us regarding your child or would like us to know anything at all please do not hesitate to say. If you should wish, a suitable time can be arranged for you to discuss in depth your child’s development and any queries or concerns. We want to work in partnership with you, to ensure that your child has a very happy time in the nursery.
