E&E Events 2008 - 2009

So far this year, E&E has put on a wide variety of events. Have a look at the following brief overview...

Stalls put up at the Black Gold film screening held in October at the EHB. It was a popular event with more than 90 attendees from the University and town communities.

To mark World AIDS Day on December 1st, E&E sent red angels and 33 red balloons out into FNDs mayhem of madness. They came back with more than £450, having given out countless red ribbons and condoms. During the day, an awareness stall and a short reflection was hosted at the Union.

Just before the Winter Holidays, E&E were in the Union Gallery for 2 days with a sale of Fairtrade Christmas gifts, examples of Fairtrade items available in the Union shop, and tips on how to have a green and ethical holiday season.

In 2009, we've been very busy with E&E Week preparations, helping with Go Green Week, gearing up for the G20 in London, and with Fairtrade Fortnight. As soon as we find space to breathe, pictures from all of these will be up. Till then, click here for more information about what we were up to for Fairtrade Fortnight.

E&E Events 2007 - 2008

In 2007 - 2008, E&E put on a number of events under the leadership of E&E Officers Monica Adorno and Neil Holbrook and the E&E Committee.

Fairtrade Fortnight in February / March '08. Events included an imago-hosted Fairtrade Caribbean Curry night, a Fairtrade Fair in the Union Gallery and a Fairtrade Football match between the Union and imago.

Reality Check Week -- May 2008

E&E week, 8 days of ethically and environmentally focused events and campaigns.

The week started off on Sunday with a 'Neon Rave' in Cognitos, complete with low energy lighting and lots of glowsticks. Monday through Friday, each day had a different theme that events were focused around.

On Monday, the theme was direct action, and E&E's good friends, People & Planet and Amnesty International, put on a very visual event (including a 6 foot papier-maché Earth) at Freefest for their Ditch Dirty Development campaign.

Tuesday was Travel & Transport and included a visit to the Union by a member of staff from Estates, who spoke about car-sharing opportunities open to students and staff. On-campus bike shop Cogz also came down to the Union for free bike doc sessions, and the AU cycling club also put up a stand.

Recycling & Waste was Wednesday's theme, and a Clothes Swap was held in Room 1 in the afternoon. Charnwood Borough Council sent along a few staff members from their Recycling & Waste department, who handed out freebies and reminded us all about the recycling guidelines we should be following, while students had a chance to exchange some of their old clothes for 'new' treasures. At the end of the day, 4 bags of clothes were left over and donated to local charity shops. A tour of the University's new composting facility was also organised for the day.

On Thursday, the theme of the day was Energy Efficiency. Members of the E&E Committee were in the Union Gallery during the day, handing out more than 200 energy efficient lightbulbs and 40 powerdowns (which had kindly been donated by Charnwood Borough Council) to students and staff. Information was also displayed about the Halls Energy League.

Beautifully sunny Friday's theme was everybody's favourite: Food. A local farm came along to the Union and set up a delicious barbeque on the lawn with burgers made from their own organic beef and special-recipe veggie burgers. People & Planet once again helped out with a 'Stick, Dip, and Lick' Fairtrade fruit and chocolate stall.

The week finished off on the following Monday with a fabulous Fairtrade Fashion Show.
