Loughborough Students Union Structure
As you can see all of the democratic features of the Students Union including Union Council and the Sub Committees of Union Council are incredibly important and ensure the union as a whole is fairly run inline with the Union Constitution and our mission to create a 'better student life'. The Students Union is a very complex organisation and to try to simplify things the following structural diagram has been designed to illistrate the structure of the Union.

Sub Committees of Union Council

Elections Committee oversee the running of elections and have a big role to play particularly during the campus wide annual executive elections.  This committee is made up of completely impartial student members who support the returning officers in the day to day running of elections. For example; manning ballot boxes, organising hustings or organising postal votes.

Governance Committee is integral to the continuing development of the union. This committee look over the unions development, structure and plans within the constitution, try to implement new initiatives, revise old ones and annually review our constitution to give our members a better student life.

Finance and Trading Committee meets on a regular basis along with permanent members of union staff to oversee our financial situation and look at the budgets. The group analyse how the union is performing financially and look at what we can do in terms of trading to increase our financial success.

Procedures Committee consider disputes arising from the interpretation of the union’s constitution, schedules, or standing orders. They can also recommend changes, oversee and review club and society constitutions and the union constitution.

Discipline Committee is the biggest sub committee made up of 20 ordinary members of council. The committee consider specific complaints about a member of the union or executive. They also over see routine penalties handed out by the VP Finance and can inform our discipline policies.

Independent Appeals Committee deals with issues arising between members of permanent staff that are unresolved through the normal management structure. The committee of 6 have not met in the last 20 years!!
