Wado Ryu Karate
Wado Ryu Karate

Loughborough Students Wado Ryu Karate invites students as well as non-students to join the club. The club is open to all levels, ranging from beginners to the highly experienced, including those from different organisations. We cater for everyone, just come along and enjoy.
Within LSU WRK we aim to foster and develop the sport of Wado Ryu and discourage any misuse. We provide a friendly environment with regular training so members can develop their skills, however, it can be there to improve fitness as well as competition fighting. We also aim to provide a lot of social activities within the club. We have several popular events through out the year including the Club Initiation, Christmas Ball, May BBQ and the Inter Martial Arts Social.
Here at LSU WRK, we have one of the most devoted committees and have done for a number of years. We work hard together moving the club forward as much as possible as well as meeting the requirements of its members.
At last Year's BUCS, one of our members Adam Firman won a silver medal, and in the past year we've attained a number of medals at tournaments such as the Welbeck Tri-Uni Tournament so check out the pic's below.
What is Wado-Ryu Karate?
Wado-Ryu Karate is a Japanese martial art founded by Hironori Ohtsuka Sensei in 1934. After studying Shotokan, and the Samurai martial art of Jiu-jitsu, Ohtsuka Sensei developed Wado Ryu Karate as he felt it is a softer, more natural means of self-protection.
Wado Ryu meaning "Way of Peace" and Karate Do meaning "Way of the Empty Hand" formed the full title Wado Ryu Karate Do. This was because, Ohtsuka Sensei's primliminary idea was to use Wado Ryu as a means of solving problems in a non-violent way; thus without the use of weapons.
If you are interested in joining a martial art, please come to our training sessions and have a go, everyone is welcome. You do not need any past experience, training starts from beginner level onwards.
