Thinking of Joining Loughborough Lacrosse?

Loughborough lacrosse is commited to welcoming new players into both the Men's and Women's sections every year! We have recantly expanded to include a men's 2nds team and the Women's 2nds continue to be successful. We welcome upwards of 60 beginners every year and we want to improve those figures, continuing to build on what has become a great club.

First of all: why would you want to join Loughborough Lacrosse?

- A chance to represent the best sporting University in the country

- A chance to try a new, fast paced and highly Skillful sport

- Great social opportunities

- Improve on your fitness

- ... and obviously much much more!

Men

The men's first team is comprised of a combination of seasoned players, ranging from international standard to lower domestic level, and athletes who began at University. With the inclusion of a men's second team any new players are welcome, and the potential to get BUCs game time imediatly is certainly there. For those hoping to compete for a 1st team space there is a place for athletes of all kinds on a lacrosse pitch, here are a few profiles for the various positions:

Goalkeeper: Fast reactions, a keen eye for a ball, somewhat of a crazy streak, easily transferred skills from Wicket Keeping and Hockey Goal keeping

Defender: 2 types of defender, Fast and spikey; Big wrecking ball. Height helps in either department and Speed is a big help, lots of footwork training. Easily transferable skills from American Football, Basketball and to a certain extent rugby

Midfielder: Lacrosse fitness is based on stop and go speed burst primarily. Therefore a level 12 or 13 on the bleep test would be all you need, however much of the training is fartlek styled. Midfielders should be fast and physical, similar to wingers in Rugby.

Attack: Attackers come in all shapes and sizes, speed or strength are the 2 dominant forces, must have a good shot which often comes with experience bowling in cricket

Women

Being a part of the Women's section provides the opportunity to be trained by some of the best players in the game, multiple internationals compete on the 1st team, and the second team are constantly recruiting players. Want to play casually? come along to the 2nd team... want to start brand new? come down to the beginners sessions. For the player with experience either at school or club the 1st team provides an attainable target, through hard work and dedication earn a place on THE name in BUCS ladies lacrosse.
