Are you interested in helping troubled Youths in the community? Can you commit your time and skills to young people? The Leicestershire Youth Offending Service is a multi-agency service that works with young people between 10 and 18 years of age to prevent and reduce offending. It is good work experience for anyone involved with the social sciences and a good opportunity to develop skills and confidence. There are four projects to choose from depending on what appeals to you most and how much time you can dedicate: Short Term Intervention: An opportunity to assist in reducing re-offending and persistent offending by young people. A good project for meeting new people and increasing your knowledge of local networks. Appropriate Adults: Provide support to a young person whilst they are being interviewed by the police giving you the chance to ensure that the interview is conducted fairly. You will facilitate communication between young people, the police and other agencies. Community Panel Members: These volunteers meet with young people and the victims of their crimes to draw up a contract to address their offending behaviour. This contract is designed to prevent them from re-offending. Mentoring: This requires positive role models to mentor young people involved in the Youth Justice system to help them tackle the issues in their lives that put them at risk of further offending.
