Action - Language Support Scheme

This scheme is designed to allow International Students to use one of their unique strengths to the benefit of other students. Loughborough University offers a number of extra-curricular language courses and it would help students learning a foreign language to have a native speaker to talk to, in order to boost their speaking confidence and also to give them some first hand experience of the culture of the region(s) whose language they are learning. The languages we can support are not restricted to those the University offers; there is a Learning Resources Centre (situated in the department of Politics, International Relations & European Studies) which provides students with self-study materials for a wide range of foreign languages. We aim to offer support to students using these materials as well as those registered on courses.

If you would like to use your mother tongue ability to help other students who are learning a new language, and also to share your culture with them, then this scheme is a perfect opportunity for you. It will operate as an informal voluntary language tutoring scheme. We will try to pair you up with students who are interested and wish to gain extra support for their language learning. We will provide you with guidelines on how to make the most of the scheme and there will also be occasional meetings to make sure that all the volunteers are on the right track. Speakers of all languages are welcome, especially speakers of German, French, Spanish and Italian.
